The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell
by Chris Colfer
Spoiler-free summary
12-year-old twins Alex and Conner Bailey are total opposites. Alex is very clever and takes her schoolwork seriously. Conner, on the other hand, takes pride in being the class clown and often falls asleep in class. The twins recently lost their father, and they both lost a little bit of their spark. When their grandma gifts them the old storybook that she and their dad used to read to them, the twins find themselves in a world where all of their favorite characters are real. The only problem is that the villains are real too. The twins need to get home as fast as possible. But how?
Why we loved this book
- I love how a lot of these characters are from fairy tales that most people are already familiar with. The main characters meet people like Cinderella and Red Riding Hood, but they have grown up since we first read about them. And they are not what who you expect them to be.

Be brave, children. Courage is one thing that no one can ever take away from you." -Goldilocks
If you love fairy tales but are also looking for something adventurous, this is the right book. Because you already know who some of the characters are, it is easy to get started but there are enough twists and turns to keep you hooked.
