Katniss Everdeen is 16 years old when she enters the Hunger Games. She lives in the country of Panem, where the all-powerful, controlling Capitol rules the twelve districts. Every year, the Capitol forces each district to send a boy and a girl tribute, or competitor into the Games. The tributes compete in a fight to the death, just for the Capitol's entertainment. Katniss meets Peeta Mellark, the boy tribute from her district, and they take a different approach than many of the other tribute pairs. Katniss and Peeta must decide who to trust and in the end, are faced with an impossible decision.
Why we loved this book
- I liked The Hunger Games because it kept me turning the pages. Every chapter ended with a cliffhanger and it just kept building suspense.
- I also love how Katniss was driven by her love for Prim, not just because she wanted fame and glory like many of the other tributes.
