Will is an orphan who cannot find his place during choosing day, when he and his friends are meant to decide their trades, the jobs they will perform, for the rest of their lives. Will never saw what was coming, and soon finds himself as a Ranger's Apprentice. A job more interesting, exciting, and adventurous than expected.
Why we loved this book
- This book is one of my FAVORITE books of all time! I enjoyed this book so much, I made not just my dad read it, but even my grandpa. Guess what? They both loved it too. My dad and I quote this book to each other on a regular basis. I really enjoyed it, not just because of its fast-paced storyline, but because of the lessons I learned from it.

Final recommendation
The Ruins of Gorlan is the beginning of one of the coolest series I have ever read, and even has 3 companion series' which are just as good. Highly recommend to anyone!
